Karumba 30th May
Karumba is made famous by the fact that Bart mentions it in every episode of the Simpsons . Aye Karumba !!!!!!
The campsite was welcoming friendly and accommodating. The people we met were lovely . The fishing is apparently electric . So why didn’t we like it so much . It felt like appearing in “Cocoon” but the bit when they were going cold turkey after coming off the life giving elixir . We watched game one of the state of origin on a big screen in the campground. One of the most perfect first halves of all time with virtually no mistakes and very exciting . 80% of the audience left at half time – you could smell the cocoa wafting from the caravans ! This is not a “one night caravan stand ” most are here for 2 to 6 months .
What summed it up for me was a lovely old fella next to us who had a cracking fishing boat. I asked him if he was going out tomorrow (the wind had kept him on shore for days ) he said that he’d couldn’t possibly go on Thursday as that was the day the veggie van came round and they couldn’t miss it !
One of the octagenarians caught a large King Salmon off the beach the day we were their. How he landed it is a mystery as there was more muscle mass on the salmon than on him !
They were a lovely bunch who clearly loved their campsite and the owners looked after them very well -just not for us .
Our saviour however was the Sunset pub a 20 minute walk from the campsite. Full of youngsters (50s) and living up to its name
My fishing was prolific but on a narrow species range. I must have landed 10 catfish. I ended up feeding them to the pelicans and one near tame Jabiru .
