Gregory Downs 2nd June
We arrived to a jam packed campground tight up against a beautiful river . Not for us the cheek by jowl accommodation so we headed about 10 k out of town and found the same river . Great big rocky dry beach next to a crystal clear river. After a bit of “to me to me , to you to you “ by the senior reversing director we got a great spot. Just shows you that if you are prepared to look a little bit away from the hordes you can still find good quiet spots .The previous campers had not been too kind and we spent 20 minutes clearing up their rubbish . In amongst the rubbish was a modern take on a traditional hunting spear scissors taped to a gum branch.
The flood waters provided masses of firewood so it was reminiscent of the scene out of Castaway with Tommy Hanks shouting FIRE ! .
In the evening light I caught a nice bass and a little sooty grunter. Unfortunately the chef didn’t do them justice as the hot plate over the fire was just too hot and turned nice fish into tyre making material -my bad . In the morning i went to fish where a waterhole funnelled into the start of the little creek. I used my torch to spot some decent fish in a back eddy . With some prawns i managed to land two nice purple grunters ..
