Long drive from Mount Isa to Winton of 465k but it was on tarmac roads so no real drama . Kate worked her magic on the wikicamp app and found a free site 3 k out of town. in 5 minutes we had parked up , levelled the van got the chairs out and were popping the cork on a cheeky bottle of chilled rose ! The waterhole was nearly dried out and in dire need of some rain.
This is the first of a two week easter schools break for Easter and we have seen a lot more caravans on the road and we were joined by another three families who were camping at various spots around the waterhole. I threw a line and caught some little fish and the yabbie net produced the first crab catch of the trip . Im sure you can eat these but I didn’t take that bush tucker challenge on !
Winton is famous for its links to Banjo Paterson who is best known for writing Waltzing Matilda . Apparently he used to get upset with passing Scottish strikers picking him up and hitting him against a cows arse to prove their critics wrong.
