Another stop where we hadn’t intended to stop but pulled in front of the Hotel , looked at the bar , the car park the river and said – why not . The bar was empty , the owner Doug was pleasant , chatty and quick at serving but his dogs stole the show George the Great Dane and Jane the long tailed Rotty
The pub is made of solid sandstone from back in 1882 , there are no locals as such and almost all trade is passing through.
This actually felt the most remote of the outback pubs we had been in so far even if it wasn’t by kilometres. An empty pub , an empty car park and yes in fishing terms a river empty of fish but funnily enough full of turtles and Yabbies that liked my bait.
Oh and yes this was the spot where Kate had to believe that snakes are real not make believe . We saw a two metre snake swim across the river and make its way up to the pub.
Abundant birdlife and location gets top prize for the most persistent and annoying batch of blow flies known to humanity.
